Melton Mowbray War Memorial Hospital

Without knowing what this place was or even the name of it, we decided to explore this place on the same day as another location very close by. Although totally stripped out inside, what an explore it turned out to be!

Here’s what history I can find, now we know what the place was of course…

The hospital in Melton Mowbray started life as Hill House and was built pre 1760. In 1840 it was renamed Wyndham Lodge and rebuilt in Wartnaby stone in 1874.

In 1920 Col Richard Dalgleish purchased Wyndham lodge as a gift to the town. In honour of those who had fallen during the great war it became known as Melton & District War Memorial Hospital.

The hospital closed in 2005. There are currently plans to convert the Grade II listed building to retirement homes.
