While in the area at another location, it made sense to check out Benenden Hospital out before embarking on the long journey home. Another site that had been high on the list for quite some time.
After alerting fellow explorer RelictaSpiritus to this place being nearby and a last minute scramble to organised a weekend trip, we were making our way over to Norfolk to visit HMP Blunderston
Visiting this site once before but with a lack of camera equipment, the opportunity arrose to visit again on the off chance so took the camera along with me.
Back in the game after a bit of a break from the urbex world and teaming up with the original urbex buddies for the first time in nearly a year! So was a great laugh as always, as well as a semi good explore.
Last of three locations on one night, conveniently within walking distance of each other. Once again playing with the new photography toys, this time creating something creative that’s quite likely never seen inside a hospital unit.
Without knowing what this place was or even the name of it, we decided to explore this place on the same day as another location very close by. Although totally stripped out inside, what an explore it turned out to be!
With a very cold -3c start, we were off to the Vagrant Cells in Melton Mowbray. Not really knowing what we were looking for, we immediately discovered the main building was abandoned and looked nothing like the pictures we had come across online of the cells.
Certainly at the top of the list of splores this, without a doubt worth the trip! All be it only 20 mins away, for some of us anyway 😛
The day started early and after some very useful hints from a fellow explorer we walked straight into the hospital with no trouble at all, best of all the automatic doors were still working! A slightly odd experience in an abandoned hospital for the doors to literally welcome to through, but with the power still in throughout the hospital made for some amazing shots and a lot of laughs.
Bit of a backup plan this one after another location didn’t get off the ground. Not much left to see now, however a great little explore none-the-less… The site is pretty much just a shell now with the majority of the site demolished, leaving only part of the main building standing. Had the camera with me at this one but decided not to use it, plus an awesome test for my new phone haha! Here’s the usual bit of history pinched off the interwebs…
It’s certainly been a while since we had an explore on this scale and what an explore it was! After an early start, a McDonalds breakfast and quick fuel stop we arrived at Selly Oak Hospital to spend the next two hours looking for an access point.
